For sixty years, WHRB 95.3 FM has been Cambridge's first source for exciting, entertaining, and enlightening music broadcasts. Harvard Radio’s airing of classical music, jazz, and underground rock explore a great genre of music left largely untouched by other commercial stations. WHRB's weekend lineup features blues and urban contemporary programs, as well as Boston's beloved “Hillbilly at Harvard”, WHRB News, and Harvard sports reports and updates. In an era when quality music is increasingly difficult to find on the radio, the Boston Globe praises WHRB for keeping a "secured commitment to individual and adventurous programming." Harvard Radio Broadcasting Co., Inc. is a private, non-profit corporation operated on a volunteer basis by undergraduates at Harvard College. The purpose of WHRB is to educate and train students while offering musical, cultural, educational and informational programs and materials to the public.

WHRB 95.3 FM is probably best known for inventing the “Musical Orgy”. Presented twice a year in January and May, “Orgies” are marathon-style musical programs devoted to a single composer, performer, genre, or subject. Legend has it that the tradition began over fifty-five years ago in the spring of 1943. At that time, it is said that one Harvard student, then a staff member of WHRB, returned to the station after a particularly difficult exam and played all of Beethoven's nine symphonies consecutively to celebrate the end of a long, hard term of studying. The idea caught on, and soon the orgy concept was expanded to include live jazz and rock “Orgies,” as well as a wide variety of recorded music.
