For the people by the people is the basic mission statement of Fort Hays State University's KFHS 98.3 FM. Anyone with something of interest to present to the Hays community is encouraged to participate in KFHS 98.3 FM's superlative programming schedule. Organizations for civil issues, performing arts, social services are all welcome; as are church groups, schools, local governmental agencies, local musicians and other individuals even if they are not affiliated to the Fort Hays State University. These groups have the opportunity to share what matters most to them on the KFHS 98.3 FM in an effort to make life richer and more rewarding in the Hays area.

Any individual regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, background, beliefs, age, physical ability or lifestyle can take advantage of affordable training in broadcasting at KFHS 98.3 FM. This specialized broadcast industry training also gives members of the Hays community the opportunity to voice what is important to them and display their talents. Women, minority groups and others who aren't usually given the opportunity to play a significant role in on-air broadcasting are major decision makers and managers at KFHS 98.3 FM. Listeners are provided a significant number of avenues by which they can take part. Phone calls, letters, tapes, performances, attendance at community events and even studio visits are encouraged. The main purpose of this KFHS 98.3 FM policy is to remove the invisible barrier that so often exists between Hays community members and the station and its broadcast program.

Students are the ones who do the actual work at KFHS 98.3 FM and professionals serve as sources of advice and direction.
