When Life Began
By 1994 Radio Rhema (as it was then known) had grown to 17 stations but was under increasing pressure to be 'all things to all people'. Some thought the music was too rocky, some thought it wasn't rocky enough; so in October 1997, Life fm and Southern Star were born, two entirely new networks for two entirely different generations.

With the exception of Christchurch, the original home of Life fm (see FAQ section for more details), Life fm started in Auckland on 99.8fm, and in the Waikato / Bay of Plenty on 94.6.

It's been exciting to see Life fm expand and grow with new stations coming on air all over the country. Life fm can now be heard by over half of the young people in New Zealand. As we look back over the life of this station so far, we thank God for his awesome provision.

Noticed something different?
You may have noticed that Life fm sounds different to other radio stations... the music seems to be more alive, the announcers are more positive and not as crude and trashy.

The difference is that all of the staff and artists on Life fm have a belief in God and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
What's it all about?

1. This is Serious
Since many people can seem really uptight about so many things that are ultimately trivial, you might think that religion is another overblown topic. Not so. What you think about God will define who you really are, what kind of morals you live by and, in the end, what happens to you when your body stops working.

2. No Excuses
Have you noticed that even when criminals are caught in the act, they have excuses as to why they are “not guilty”? Someone or something “made” them do it and, therefore, they should be considered innocent. The fact is no one has a good enough excuse not to believe in God. The strongest evidence? The world around you and the creation within you. Beyond those things, we have an internal moral compass, our conscience, installed by God to point to Him. Follow it and you’ll come to the conclusion that He is, and you need Him.

3. One Way
Fine, so there is a God—if you’re ready to go that far. Now, you might start to decide what you think He is like. Don’t bother—it’s not up to you. Humans do not judge what God should be like; it’s the other way around. Here are the facts: God is pure, but people are fallen creatures and need saving. God sent His Son, Jesus, to die for the sins of the world on the cross. This is the gospel, simple and straight. Believe it and be saved.

4. Hardest and Easiest Thing in the World
Believing that God did all the work makes our salvation an easy thing in terms of human effort, and we don’t like that. We want to earn our way to God. This is what separates Christianity from all other religions. Other religions will tell you how to be reach up and be good enough to earn God’s favour. Jesus is all about God reaching down and picking us up. Let Him.

5. God is Love
The Greeks believed that their gods lived high on Mount Olympus, arbitrarily casting down thunderbolts at the people below. Don’t laugh—this is still the view many people have about God. Don’t believe it. Picture this: A God who came to earth as a man, who understands you, who listens to you, and loves you. But how can we know more about Him? Well….

6. There is a Letter
Since God organized and operates the universe, you would think that we could trust Him to get a message to us. He did. It’s the Bible. Lots of people have lots of weird ideas about it. Here’s a good one: Read it yourself.

7. You Have a Choice
Ultimately, everyone has to make a personal decision about how to live and what to do about God. Most people are pretty good at staying busy and pretending He isn’t important. Some day that won’t be possible. You and everyone else who has lived will have a personal interview with God. No parents, no teachers, no friends, and no excuses. Just you, God, and one question: Did you live like you believed that Jesus died for your sins?
