CITR 101.9 FM is the University of British Columbia’s station, reaching listeners from Point Grey to Langley, Squamish to Bellingham, Washington. Run by local and campus volunteers, CITR offers its listeners a alternative news, culture and music radio station unlike anything else.
CITR prides itself on alternative coverage of all genres and perspectives, with programs on comics, comedy, music, news, culture, sexuality, Thunderbird sports and the local community it serves. With coverage focused on local issues and some of the most diverse music programs anywhere on the air, CITR is true community radio, supporting niche programming and Canadian local artists.
The news coverage at CITR is covered by Rita Farkas and Marie Benard, who broadcast on local, national, and international news. Alice Huang and Henry Fung provide the Greater Vancouver with meteorological weather forecasts, and Phil Cawdrey takes care of political commentary every Friday.
Don’t miss out on the Arts Report with Tracy Fuller as she explores Vancouver’s creative scene. She’ll bring you interviews with Vancouver artists, current gallery and performance reviews, Canadian movie reviews, discussions about the artistic community, and any national arts headlines of significance to the Canadian arts community. She’ll also check in with local stores to find out what’s hot in music, video, and books this week.
Get your sports fix on the Thunderbirds football, basketball, hockey, and volleyball seasons with weekly coverage as well as live streaming games on the web. Every week Daryl Wener brings in UBC varsity athletes and coaches to talk about sports with his segment Wener’s BBQ, and CiTR Sports Friday carries selected live broadcasts for your Friday night sports fix.
The musical coverage on CiTR is incredibly varied. You’ll hear artists from every genre and every level of fame, including: Legendary Pink Dots, Stamina Mantis, Kellarissa, The Good News, Hexes and Ohs, Ra Ra Riot, Bison BC, Tobacco, The Buttless Chaps, Land of Talk, and Blitzen Trapper, among many, many others.
