Broadcasting 24 hours a day in the region between Sarajevo and Zenica, Radio Q Bosnian provides listeners with entertainment and music that they can’t get anywhere else. Radio Q began in 1999 with a full broadcasting schedule and programming to suit the needs of the listeners. There is no specific format to the station. Instead, the broadcasting focuses on the issues of the day and plays music that entertains the listener without simply sticking to one genre or format over another. This allows Radio Q Bosnian to be a free radio station with no encumbrances on what is played and when it is played. For this reason, Radio Q remains one of the most popular stations in the area and continues to be an example for what Croatian radio really can be in responsible hands.

The programming on Radio Q covers the areas of High, Breza, Vares, Ilijas, Kakanj, Kiseljak, Fojnica and Kreše. Coverage also reaches the entire area of Canton Sarajevo and Pale and Trnovo, leading to a potential listener base of about 680,000. In terms of a target audience, Radio Q focuses in on the working class of the region for the most part. The basic demographic is focused on those 25-60 years of age, with night programming from 20:00 to 07:00 geared towards a younger crowd of 17-25 year olds. Radio Q is also broadcast online at radioq.ba or visoko.co.ba. This helps widen the audience to an even greater degree and reaches further listeners around the world that are able to understand Croatian. Indeed, one thing that can be said about Radio Q Bosnian is that they are very in touch with their listener base and in the art of attracting new listeners.

News is perhaps the core focus of Radio Q Bosnian for most of the day, although the livelier musical programming does take place in the evening hours. Regardless, listeners are treated to a free range of discussion and ideas under the careful examination of the Radio Q commentators and analysts. This makes for interesting radio if you speak Croatian, but understanding the proceedings can be a bit of a challenge if you don’t.
