80s Dance

Dance music is a term that is used to describe electronic music in commercial forms. The different styles include house, Eurobeat, hip house, Eurodance, bass and drum, techno, trance, synthpop and electro. In the eighties, the proliferation of personal computers caused a boom in electronic dance music.

Most of the music genres that used electronic instruments developed into a contemporary style because of the MIDI protocol, which enabled synthesizers, computers, samplers and sound cards as well as drum machines to interact with one another and achieve the complete synchronization of all the sounds. Typically, electronic dance is composed using synthesizers and computers - there are rarely ever any physical instruments.

The physical instruments are replaced by electronic or digital sounds, which have a four by four beat. Typically, dance music ranges from one hundred and twenty bpm to two hundred bpm, with trance, techno and house being the most widespread. However, many producers of this particular style were actually trained in classical music before they were able to make the transition to the electronic medium.

The new millennium has brought several different subgenres of electronic dance music to the table throughout Northern and Central Europe, which includes the bassline house, UK garage, Goa trance, grime, psytrance, Sheffield, dubstep which is inspired by reggae.

Folk Dance Music:
There are various traditional styles of dance music that are included under the genre, dance music such as waltzes, Irish traditional music, country music, rock and roll, as well as tangos. In the United States, one example of tradition style dance music is the old time music that is played at contra dances and square dances. The dance music in Brazil includes Forro, Samba and Pagode. These dances never really lost their following and continued alongside the younger dance music right through the eighties.

There are also other dance forms that include meringue, contradance, as well as the cha-cha-cha.
