Generally, turntablism is focused a lot more on the technique of the turntable and a little less on the mixing. Every single scratch of the turntable is considered to be unique due to the overall complexity of the waveforms that are produced as well as employing digital sampling; both of these things are considered to be affronting the true Turntablist.
The Rise of Gangsta Rap:
“Straight Outta Compton” by N.W.A. was the very first gangsta rap album that became a pop hit among the mainstream by selling over two and a half million copies. The very first rap recording that was completed by a solo female artist was Lady B who was based out of Philadelphia in ’80 with the song titled “To the Beat, Ya’ll”, while at the exact same time, The Sequence became the very first female group to ever record. However, it wasn’t until Salt n’ Pepper during the middle of the decade that the female performers were able to gain success in the mainstream.
The very first groups that mixed heavy metal and hip hop included, in ’84, “Rock Box” by Run D.M.C. as well as the Beastie Boys “Rock Hard”.
