Rap Moracain

The Local Flavor:
Moroccan urban youth took to rap in a big way. It enabled them to use the lingo of the streets or what they call the urban darjia or dialect in order to voice their opinions and protests in a political or social message. So issues like unemployment and corruption – close to all their hearts are taken up and dealt with. Through it all runs the thread of hope – for the day when Morocco will be free of corruption. Obviously, the music touches hearts and it has grown in popularity.

The Rap Morocain Names:
There are a number of rappers as well as rap groups that have made it big in Morocco. Some of them are Muslim, H-kayne, MC4, Zanka Flow and Bigg, However, the two biggest names are Amine with his LaFamilia and the girl duo Tigresse Flow.

Amine is among the most famous of Morocco’s rappers. He used to be solo but now his LaFamilia which is his own record label is making waves with songs of the street. The company has at least six artists and it really is at the head if the pack when it comes to Moroccan rap. He is also known as The Highness.

The Tigresse Flow duo is also making waves in Morocco’s music scene. They have a style of their own and are unique in that they do not emulate any Western model. They also compose and sings sons that are relevant to the youth and most of them read like protest songs. Both Maria and Sofia rock the audiences with their snorts and yells, accompanied by wild drum rhythms. Their rap sounds are uttered in Moroccan French and sometimes a bit of English or Arabic. It might be just a short while that they have been in the public music eye but it won’t be long before they will me making a mark on the Rap Morocain scene.

Moroccan Rap is the music of the masses – or to put it more precisely, the young masses. It gives them an outlet for not just their energy and music mindedness, it also is a way to keep their ideals going. It is a great refelction of what the Moroccan youth is all about.
