



Pop Punk

During the mid-nineties, the pop punk bands that were based in California had achieved commercial success worldwide, and the genre’s association with the southern portion of California has led some people to relate to it as the SoCal Sound. There are three main examples of breakthrough records of pop punk music, they are the ’94 multi-platinum album by Green Day entitled Dookie and The Offspring’s Smash, as well as the ’99 multi-platinum album by Blink 182 entitled Enema of the State.
From the mid-nineties and onward, there were some bands that were associated with the music genre that have been described in ways that were derogatory like mall punk, faux punk, bubblegum punk, pseudo punk and surf punk. Pop punk music has cultural origins in the mid-seventies in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as well as other countries. The typical instruments that are used in pop punk are bass, vocals, guitar and drums. Other instruments are occasionally used as well, like the keyboard. Pop punk experienced its mainstream popularity during the latter part of the seventies with various degrees of success commercially and in the nineties, pop punk music experienced massive commercial success internationally. Fashion of Pop Punk: Sometimes, pop punk fashion overlaps with emo fashion and skater punk fashion. The fans of contemporary pop punk are often known to wear items like band T-shirts with a scarf or tie, blazers, tight pants, dickies pants, shorts or jean, studded belts, Skateboarder shoes or Converse All Stars shoes. Some of the popular patterns are arms and check. Usually, women’s hair is long and men’s hair is spiky and short. There are times that it is dyed black or platinum blonde, or just natural hair colors with some unnatural streaks. Origins of Pop Punk: In ’74, the style of pop punk music emerged at the very onset of the punk rock music genre, with the Ramones, even though it wasn’t considered to be a totally separate subgenre until much later. The fast and loud melodic minimalism of the Ramones differentiated the band from all of the other bands within the budding scene of art rock within New York City.
