Jungle Music

Currently, there is a rather significant debate pertaining to weather or not the term “Jungle” is a totally separate genre from the bass and drum genre because there are some uses of the terms that are interchangeable.

Subgenres of Jungle Music:

Included among the oldschool jungle subgenres, you will find: ragga jungle (lyrics and styles that are more influenced by Jamaican-Reggae), darkcore/darkside jungle (instrumental jungle that has a less minimal focus and intelligent jungle (has a more ambient sound that focuses on the mood, production methods and synthesis methods).

Jungle music, in its entirety has extremely fast tempos breakbeats as well as percussive loops that have been heavily syncopated and simple and samples of synthesized effects which makes this genre of music very recognizable. The drum patterns that are tell-tale, which the producers created, are sometimes found to be completely off beat, which is done by cutting the breakbeats apart. The producers of Jungle music also incorporate classic Caribbean/Jamaican sound-system culture methods of production. The basslines that are deep and slower as well as simple melodies are accentuated from the overall production which gives jungle music its rolling quality.

Jungle Music Today:
Currently, jungle as a term is normally used only as a synonym for bass and drum. However, there is a rather dissenting viewpoint which is known to assert that jungle music actually exists fairly distinct to bass and drums, even despite all of the progressive changes that are brought on by the emerging artists’ interpretations throughout the nineteen nineties.

Today, without a doubt, there is definitely an underground movement that is thriving by developing and producing tracks all in the style of at least a decade ago. There are some producers of jungle music that has noticed this boost of enthusiasm for the original sound. Electronica and IDM are all different varieties of styles that experienced a rather large impact from jungle music. Some of the notable artists that were influenced by jungle music includes: Shitmat, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher and Venetian Snares.

Changes over the Years:
Over the years, jungle music experienced some changes in which the music became too difficult and too fast to be combined with the traditional rave music which created a division among the other electronic genres that were popular. Because of the changes that took place, jungle music was referred to as jungle techno music because it had lost the four on the floor beat and it had created the percussive elements from chopped up, raw beats.

After these changes, there were a lot of people that were no longer interested in the music genre and that caused a really big change as far as this music was concerned.
