Where Funkcore Music Began:
Funkcore is considered to be a musical genre, or maybe even perhaps a movement that was derived from a fusion created by mixing hardcore punk of the American style and the funk music genre. When it comes to funkcore’s origins, the music genre may be within its infancy - however there are a number of bands that have embraced this particular style. In jest, Liberty Spike has dubbed themselves as the most definitive band of the funkcore music genre. Funkcore as a label is considered to be somewhat ambiguous, with some rapcore and rap metal bands sometimes using funkcore as a term. Once again, there are several bands that fit within the loose definitions of funkcore - they also include electronica elements which are most often because of the influence by the artists of industrial rock and industrial metal. Arguably, the funkcore roots could also be attributed to “The Big Boys” a seminal band from Austin, Texas, which has lasted from ’78 to ’84, and became well known for funk and explosive live shows. They were also able to slow down the tempos of punk music in order to allow for the syncopated rhythms and they played with bands that weren’t from the punk music genre like Trouble Funk the go-go act from Washington, D.C. along with the seminal punk bands like Black Flag and Minor Threat. The Big Boys are also able to be viewed as the direct precursor to the acts of funky rock like Fishbone and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. There are many bands that claim that they were inspired greatly by the funk metal sound of Faith No More. During the nineties, the most popular band that was able to combine hard rock and funk was undoubtedly the band Race against the Machine, which was another major influence for several bands. Funkcore Music Bands: Some of the funkcore bands, normally those that are heavily influenced by Race against the Machine or punk rock, are very political just as their inspiration, like Liberty Spike from Australia or James Brown’s Corpse in the United Kingdom. In America, the popular bands have a tendency to be a lot more commercial. The Quartermass Experiment, Xashinto Fwong, The New Imprint are all very good examples of the funkcore music genre within America. Related Articles:Articles by this Author: |
