Michael Pinder, Ray Thomas, John Lodge and Justin Hayward form the British rock band known as The Moody Blues. This group, hailing from Birmingham, was founded in 1964 as more of a Rhythm and Blues band, under the leadership of Pinder and Thomas. It was only later when Lodge and Hayward joined that they began moving more towards a progressive rock style. Distinctive in their music is a fusion with some classical music, which gives them a sound different from any other group currently singing. |

Take punk rock and put in some Irish instruments – and there you have it – Celtic Punk! The genre came into being with the Pogues in London and what they were looking for was to connect with their Irish roots. It was this group that single handedly set the stage for this genre and made the way clear for other bands to follow. Shane MacGowan, the frontman then achieved legendary status and the albums that were released in the eighties and nineties had some of the most incredible music as it created a perfect blend of Irish folk and punk rock, peppered often with political messages. |
